United Nation Development Programme has recognised the importance of learning disability and its management at school level through training of teachers. Issue of Learning Disability has been focussed for a total rehabilitation, starting from early identification, parental training, investigation and planning specialist support at local community and regional centres started by the Society, regional referral centres and central institute under the Society. The activity include:

 
Planing meeting to be organised between the Departments of Education, Health and the Society for rehabilitation of Cognitive and Communicative Disorders to work out a plan of action to ground the training programmes at the community, school and block levels.
 
Process data already available with the Society for rehabilitation of Cognitive and Communicative Disorders and map learning disabilities for every school in the 10 Panchayats in Malappuram district.
 
Develop a communication strategy to educate parents, the community and children on learning disabilities.
 
Selection of around 100 women health activists in all the villages as well as resource teachers for each panchayats.
 
Orientation training of health activists, resources teachers and PHC doctor for a period of 30 days in three ten day spell for the first year. In every subsequent year one week refresher training is to be given.
   
Setting up of supervisory committee at each panchayat level headed by the PHC doctor including members like the sarpanch, resource teacher, representatives of parents and the VEC.
 
Three day orientation to be given to this panchayat level committee
 
For setting up of referral unit at the block level, recruitment of speech pathologist, special educator, child psychologists and social worker. Training to be given to this team for a period of thirty days in two spells. Refresher training for 10 days to be given in every subsequent year.
 
Mobilising and enabling a panchayat committee to manage the block referral unit and a harness local resources to meet some of the cost of running the block unit.
 
The Society of rehabilitation of Cognitive and Communicative Disorders to develop the training packages for all levels as well as to impart training.
 
The Society to collaborate with the DPEP Kerala to plan and implement the training of health activists and teachers; develop appropriate advocacy material which could be incorporated within DPEP's own environment buildings and other community based strategies.
 
The Society to provide specialist referral service on continuing basis as well as supervision of the functioning of the block referral unit.
 
Early identification by training of Anganvadi teachers / mothers for high risks infant screening
   
Setting up of the two resource centres for alternate education, training and research development, Speech Therapy course etc.
